Nicosia, 21 February 12 (T.A.K): President of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Dervish Eroglu and Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofias continued discussions on property issue at their 1.5 hour meeting, as the talks aimed at settling the long standing Cyprus problem is approaching a breaking point.
The leaders met today at their usual meeting place at the UN controlled area in Nicosia, with the presence of Alexander Downer the Special Advisor to Secretary General (SG) Ban Ki Moon, who will present to the SG a progress report at the end of March that will determine the future of the talks.
The President talking to the press on his return to the Presidential Palace, said that Turkish side had presented data to the Greek Cypriot side on property compiled from land registry and other relevant offices.
"Property is not an issue that can be settled only with data. The important thing is the criteria and rules" he said.
President Eroglu said that Greek Cypriot Leader Christofias was not so keen to the idea of discussing the property matter unless he knew what he would gain from territorial adjustment.
"Since the day we began discussing property he has been saying 'I must know what I shall be taking at territory issue'. Anyhow he has let us know his requests in written."
The President asserted that the territorial matters as the UN SG stated in his report could only be discussed only when a multi national meeting including guarantor powers Turkey, UK and Greece is called expected in end of April or early May, which will very much look up to the progress report by Downer.
On the sides of direct talks of the leaders, the UN SG Special Advisor Alexander Downer is continuing a shuttle diplomacy between the leaders, next one due this afternoon with President Eroglu. Also at the backstage specialists on property issue is continuing deliberations with UN specialists on the matter.
