Nicosia, 26 Nisan 12 (T.A.K.): Prime Minister Irsen Kucuk, has said gains from oil and gas found in TRNC would be shared with Greek Cypriots only after a settlement.
In a joint press conference following the ceremony held to mark the start of drilling for oil and gas today, Irsen Kucuk, responding to a question if oil and gas found should be shared with the Greek Cypriots said, "natural resources will be used commonly only if a settlement is reached."
Kucuk in his speech at the press conference recalled the process that led to the drilling by Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) in TRNC.
Kucuk said Turkish Cypriot side even proposed to Greek Cypriot side, a share from the water that will be transferred to TRNC through a pipeline to be assembled under the sea, which the Greek Cypriots did not respond.
Turkey's Minister for Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz, in his answer to a question on how many exploratory drilling would be carried out said, drilling in the sea was also part of a package signed between TPAO and TRNC therefore it would be immature to say a number.
He also stressed that Turkish side preferred that drilling in the disputed waters to be limited with technical work in order to avoid any tension in the area.
Mehmet Uysal, The chief executive of Turkish state-run exploration and production company TPAO has said, they foresaw 400 million TL for the exploratory drillings in TRNC land and its territorial waters.
