The Prime Minister in a written statement following the announcement of the Greek Cypriot Administration for second round of licensing for hydrocarbon exploration at 12 of 13 blocks offshore Cyprus which Greek Cypriot Administration announced as Exclusive Economic Zone in breach of International low, said, "we reiterate our call asking them not to take part in the licensing round"
He asserted that as equal partners on the island Turkish Cypriot people had equal and natural rights on exploration, excavation and exploitation found at the marine jurisdiction of the island.
"We can not remain an observer as our rights are usurped by Greek Cypriots. We are fully determined to safeguard our rights with the support of motherland Turkey.
Any petrol/natural gas activities carried out by involved countries and oil companies without gaining our consent and permission, will remain disputed and illegal"
Prime Minister citing the four point proposal made by the President Dervis Eroglu to Greek Cypriot Leader Demetris Christofis who rejected it, in New York, dated 24 September 2011 that proposed just distribution of resources, said:
"The proposal of Turkish Cypriot side is still on the table. A positive respond on the proposal from the Greek Cypriot side will settle an important problem which causes high tension in the region as well as help creating a positive and constructive atmosphere at the talks aimed at settling the Cyprus problem"
Pointing to the UN Secretary General's statement in New York following the tripartite meeting with the two Cyprus leaders in January 25th which set an time table Kucuk said, the announcement by the Greek Cypriot administration for hydrocarbon exploration displayed once again the ill approach of Greek Cypriot side at a time when both sides were expected to fully commit themselves for progress.
Irsen Kucuk reminded that the control of Cyprus Government established based on equality of two sides in 1960 were taken by force by the Greek Cypriots in 1963 and that Turkish Cypriots were forced out of all state offices with force of arms.
"Therefore Greek Cypriots using the so called Cyprus Government under no circumstances does not have the right to represent the whole island or act on behalf of Turkish Cypriots"
