In his speech, referring to martyred children and elders found in the martyrdom, TRNC President Dervis Eroglu said, "You can see this atrocity just by looking at the ages of the martrys".
In his speech, Eroglu told, "Greek Cypriots who demand to have Güzelyurt and Karpaz, also wanted Turkish Cypriots to forget the period between 1963 and 1974" but they still commemorate Greek Cypriot terror organization EOKA members.
Expressing that, Turkish Cypriots would neither forget the past nor get stick to it, President Eroglu said "Without ignoring the realities of the past and by considering the current realities of today, we should find a way for an agreement. Peace Operation brought Turkish Cypriots a territory to establish their own state".
President Eroglu said, if two separate states with different languages and religions were not accepted and Greek Cypriots carried on their dream to return to pre-1974 period it would be impossible to get somewhere.
Saying an agreement "in any case" could take the Turkish Cypriots back to the dark days; President Eroglu stated that, the Turkish Cypriots were looking for an agreement based on the effective and actual guarantees of Turkey.
Stressing that, the experiences in Murataga, Sandallar and Atlılar showed another reality, President Eroglu said, "If the second stage of the Peace Operation had not happened, all these bad experiences can be encountered across the country and all our citizens taken to prison camps in Limassol could be killed. It was inevitable to execute the second stage of the Peace Operation."
President Eroglu, concluded his speech by saying that, he conducted the negotiations with the determination for the continuum of the TRNC. Eroğlu also said, they tried to find a way of an agreement which would provide a future for the Turkish Cypriots so that they will not yearn for today.
